I find it absolutely astounding that today’s Bendigo Advertiser (8th March) features an article by Coliban Water stating that not much rain fell in catchments. Please clarify the accuracy or otherwise of that report.
By my reckoning, we should be down to stage 1 restrictions by now, at most.

    Hi Mike

refer to new posting on the site re inflows.

Regarding stage one in Bendigo, you are correct, there is almost enough water for stage one with our entitlement from the goulburn system, however, the water is of a lesser quality and our treatment plant is currently at capacity.

We have started the process of upgrading the plant, and when the works are complete (around Christmas time all things going to plan) and it is responsible to do so, we will ease restrictions.

Thanks for replying Gavin. However, I don’t quite understand how water is not moving into the system, especially via run-off from creeks and rivers. Even if the rain did not fall directly onto the main catchments surely the water courses will provide an in-flow and aren’t there pipes that take water to the catchments, even if that water needs to be treated?

Anyway, if I may make a few closing suggestions:
    1. Have more localised small storages including more tanks. A lot of water just sits on roadside drains and goes to waste,
    2. Allow more farm and property dams, especially ones that can be covered, and
    3. Install community rainwater tanks every kilometre or so along main highways so that rain can be captured whereever it falls.
